Maria Birger.
I was born and raised in Russia in a small southern town, then lived in Moscow, a big metropolis eats souls. My soul demanded changes, I wanted to see the world with greed and the eyes of a child, I have always been delighted with the existence of our world — especially nature.
I started Created in Bali — it was my place where the soul began to know itself, my first paintings were painted, with gouache and pencils, and then the journey and the taste of something new every day began. After 5 years of traveling,
I found myself married. We lived three years on Spitsbergen, in the far north beyond the Arctic Circle, an ascetic life — the beauty and severity of nature and its power. Now we have moved to southern Norway. We still travel and explore the world, but now my temple and my soul have found my altar, this is my forest, my home, myself, my husband — everything came together in harmony and the puzzle for my creativity and my freedom was completed. I draw for myself and the way I think now.

Concept & Meaning
I have expressed the idea of feminine power and sacredness through vivid symbolism. The head, replaced by a sliced papaya, emphasizes a woman’s connection to nature, fertility, and sexuality. The black-and-white depiction of the nude female body, created with striking contrast, draws attention to form and movement while also serving as a reminder to embrace one’s nature without shame.
The background, covered in sacred geometry patterns, creates an effect of infinity and harmony, as if each line connects the material with the spiritual, the body’s cells with the cosmos. The golden lines of the “Flower of Life” add a sense of divinity and energy radiating from the female figure.
This artwork seems to cry out about the importance of self-love, acceptance of one’s body and sexuality, and the realization that every woman carries divine power and a connection to the universal laws of existence.
This piece brings together themes of feminine nature, divinity, sexuality, and sacred geometry.
Subject & Theme
The painting portrays a nude female figure with a papaya as her head, symbolizing her connection to nature, sexuality, and life energy. The use of papaya as a head highlights fertility and feminine power while also reflecting unique identity. The background features sacred geometry patterns (the Flower of Life), emphasizing the universal harmony of the world and the connection between the microcosm (the cell) and the macrocosm (the universe).
The theme of the artwork is the feminine essence, self-acceptance, and the embrace of one’s body and sexuality. It serves as a reminder that every woman carries divine energy capable of creating harmony around her—if she allows herself to fully embrace it.
Creation Process
The artwork is created using acrylic paint, enhancing its expressive contrasts. The female figure is depicted in a monochrome palette, which strengthens the focus on her form and movement. The head, represented as a vibrant papaya, becomes the centerpiece of the composition, creating an emotional focal point. The golden lines in the background, symbolizing sacred geometry, are crafted with meticulous precision, adding sophistication and depth.
Inspiration
The painting was inspired by ideas of body acceptance, connection to nature, and spirituality. I reflected on the role of women in the world and the importance of inner harmony. Papaya serves as a symbol of fertility, sexuality, and individuality, making it the perfect element to convey this concept.
Interesting Fact
In this piece, papaya acts as a powerful symbol. In many cultures, this fruit is associated with fertility and feminine energy. Additionally, the Flower of Life, used in the background, is often regarded as an ancient symbol of unity and the interconnectedness of all things.
This painting is not just a visual work—it is a philosophical reflection. It invites the viewer to contemplate their connection to nature, their body, and their inner world.

Subject and Theme
This painting depicts a female figure in a folded, slightly closed pose, symbolizing vulnerability, self-reflection and inner strength. The body reflects light and shadow in warm, earthy tones, creating a sense of naturalness and a deep connection with nature. The gilded elements at the bottom enhance the sense of value of the body and spirit, reminding us of the divine and the inner richness of man.
The main theme of the work is self-acceptance, inner balance and the beauty of imperfection. The painting conveys emotional depth, making the viewer reflect on the fine line between the strength and fragility of human nature.
How it was created
Technique: Acrylic on canvas, with elements of gold leaf.
Color scheme: Earthy, warm colors, harmonizing with gold details.
Composition: The figure of the woman takes up most of the canvas, while the background is kept light and neutral, allowing the focus to be on the body and its texture. • Light and shadow: Created by soft color transitions, they add depth and volume.
What inspired the painting
This work have been inspired by:
The idea of accepting your body, its naturalness and beauty.
The play of light and shadow on the skin, symbolizing the complexity of the human soul.
Ancient sculptures and classical painting, where the body was depicted as a work of art.
Gold leaf, reminiscent of icons and sacred art, adds a spiritual subtext — the beauty of the body as a temple of the soul.
Interesting facts
Gold leaf at the bottom of the painting can symbolize the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds — the figure seems to float on the energy of the universe.
The closed pose of the heroine can be interpreted in two ways: as a moment of solitude and peace or as a symbol of protection from the outside world.
The technique of multi-layered color overlay creates the effect of a living, breathing body, and soft transitions of shades make the image sensual.
The emotional perception of the painting changes depending on the lighting — in different light, the accents on the shadows and gold can change, giving the work a new mood.
Conclusion
This painting is not just a depiction of the body, but a deep exploration of femininity, inner strength and self-acceptance. It combines physical and spiritual beauty, inviting the viewer to reflect on light and shadow — both on the canvas and inside us.

This artwork is an abstract and expressionist interpretation of the female body. The painting focuses on the curves of the torso, using rich and contrasting colors—yellow, burgundy, brown, and black—to create depth, movement, and emotional intensity.
Subject and Theme
The central subject is the female figure, depicted in a fragmented yet expressive manner. The painting highlights sensuality and the natural beauty of the body, conveying emotions through color and form. The main themes of the work are self-expression, corporeality, and inner energy.
The idea that women are goddesses and that their bodies possess limitless potential is deeply resonant. My painting seems to express that the body is not just a shell but a source of energy, grace, and strength. The bold contrasts and abstract forms symbolize emotions, movement, and life force.
Technique and Style
This piece was created using acrylic on canvas. The style is a combination of abstract expressionism and figurative painting, where anatomical details are intentionally simplified and transformed into dynamic color patches. The use of bright contrasts (especially yellow against darker shades) enhances the dramatic effect of the image.
Inspiration
My work was inspired by studies of the human form in art, ideas of feminine power and beauty, and even influences from Fauvism and Modernism. I aimed to convey emotions through color rather than through realistic representation.
